Emma Bannister
Head Coach
Emma Bannister
Hello everyone,
I'm Emma Bannister, and I'm excited to introduce myself as the Sharks U18A-2 coach for next season. I'd like to share a bit about my background and my passion for hockey.
My journey in this sport has been unique and rewarding. I grew up playing boys' hockey at the AA level, starting with the Toronto Aces where I played a year up, followed by four years with the East Ender Ticats. This experience taught me resilience and honed my skills against tough competition.
Later, I transitioned to girls' hockey where I went on to play for the North York Storm and finished my playing days with the Toronto Aeros at the midget AA level. This diverse experience has given me a comprehensive understanding of the game from different perspectives. Hockey has given me countless unforgettable memories especially through the incredible experience of traveling all over Europe to play for a high-level travel team. The thrill of competing in new countries, facing different styles of play, and bonding with teammates created moments that I’ll cherish forever. Beyond the game itself, hockey helped me build deep friendships that have lasted a lifetime, forming connections with people who share the same passion and commitment. These experiences have shaped me both as a player and as a person, leaving me with a lifetime of memories and lasting relationships.
Although my playing career has ended, my love for hockey continues to thrive through coaching. I've had the privilege of coaching at both the U18AA and junior levels, which has been incredibly rewarding. Currently, I'm a skills coach with Beast Athletics and Bob Acton Sports, a local company in the East end. These roles have allowed me to stay connected to the game while helping young players develop their abilities.
While I may be a young coach, I've gained a wealth of knowledge throughout my playing and coaching years. My coaching philosophy revolves around the belief that hockey is a true team sport where every practice and game is an opportunity for the entire team to grow and improve together. I believe that success on the ice comes when every player is committed to the collective goal, understanding that teamwork and communication are key to achieving it. Beyond hockey skills, I place a strong emphasis on character development, focusing on instilling important values such as respect, resilience, and sportsmanship. I aim to create a positive and supportive environment where players feel valued, encouraged to give their best, and have fun while playing the game they love. My goal is to inspire young girls and pass on the valuable lessons I've learned throughout my hockey journey.
I'm passionate about developing not just skilled players, but confident, team-oriented individuals who love the game as much as I do. I'm looking forward to working with each player, helping them improve their skills, and watching our team achieve our goals both on and off the ice.
