Shannon Andersen

Born and raised in Toronto, I grew up playing hockey for the Leaside Wildcats through the late1980’s and then played Varsity Hockey for four years at the University of Toronto. I continue to play in various women’s leagues in Toronto through Skate Sister and Hockey Extreme. Playing hockey in my youth provided me with experiences and friendships that have stayed with me to this day. Team sports instilled in me valuable ethics, confidence and a dedication that has helped shape into the mom, business owner and hockey coach that I am today.

I began coaching my son in his U9 year and after 6 years, stepped down so that I could act as an assistant coach for my twin daughters, joining the Sharks this past year. Being involved in girl’s hockey as a female role model has given me a newfound love of coaching. I mainly focus on player-centered development, emphasizing technical skills, game sense, effort and mental toughness but the most important thing is providing an environment where girls want to keep participating in elite sport.

My goal is not only to help players grow as skilled athletes but also to help them become strong teammates and individuals both on and off the ice.  My coaching philosophy is to instill a mixture of physical and mental frameworks throughout all aspects of the game. I will aim to create a positive environment where all players feel safe, seen and supported while having fun and growing their love for hockey.  I am very honoured to be named Head Coach of the U15A team this year!×
